What is Small Business Accounting really all about?

Posted on 28 January 2010

Does your accountant just follow the technical description of accounting or can you expect more? Is small business accounting only about recording transactions, or accurately paying the tax man, or is it about ethics? Perhaps it’s about all these things and more. There is so much more…..

How about peace of mind, self respect, being able to know where you stand and being better prepared for the future?  WOW, is accounting about all that! WOW!!!!

1. You get peace of mind from knowing exactly how your business is doing. No more sleepless nights.  If there is a problem, good accounting will show you, so you can fix it.  If your doing well, you can rest assured it will stay that way as long as you keep doing what you are doing.  If you are doing very well, you probably don’t need to read this post. Congratulations on figuring it out. Keep up the good work.

2. You have self respect because you are maintaining a higher standard by recording and tracking your business success. You know that you are doing it right and it feels good. Yah, go on hold your head high!

3. You know where you stand because you know the real score is not recorded in your bank account. You know it’s in your financial statements. Down at the bottom right beside; “Shareholders Equity” and “Retained Earnings”. Don’t forget “Net Income”. Whoaaa it feels good when those numbers are high. Just ask Bill Gates or look at his numbers. Just remember to add 6 zero’s to the numbers you see. Click here to view the microsoft annual report.

Don't keep your money in a pig.

4. Knowing what is working for you and what is not working.  Knowing prepares your future for greater profit. Not knowing holds you down. If you have had negative or no growth for more than one year, please, please, please call your accountant! Hire a consultant, take a course, but for your business sake, do something to prepare for your future profit.

You need a good small business accountant on your side. Turn them into your partner for success.  Don’t wait, act now. Your peace of mind, self respect, confidence and future growth depends on your actions.
