Books that changed my life part 2

Philosophy, an article about philosophy on a small business blog? Instinct should have you running the other way, quickly. How can a philosophical novel teach you anything about increasing the profit in your small business?

What do you need to know the most on a day to day basis? Can you get what you need from reading “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand?

I believe you need to know that what you do counts, it matters not just to you but to all those you serve, supply, employ and buy from. Your mind, body and spirit are moving towards achieving what your ego has created? What the? Say what?  That sounds like a bunch of philosophical horse dung.

Yes Ayn Rand wrote “Atlas Shrugged”, with the stated purpose of creating a work of fiction that explored the role of the mind in man’s life and the morality of rational self-interest.  She did not right it as primer for Small Business Success and I don’t think she promotes accountants in the book at all.

What I read that stuck with me all these years is, that business is an expression of man’s genius and the source of much of our current well-being. I learned that you, dear reader are the reason why most of us can buy food!

I exaggerate you say.  Well read the book, Rand takes you on an odyssey of business people going “on strike”.  The concept is actually very funny, picture it, all of you small business folks just deciding to not show up.  Just imagine, no delivery drivers, no grocery store owners, no restaurant owners, no gardeners, no independent truck drivers, handymen, need I go on?

You my friend, and all of your peers are what it takes to turn todays slow economy around.  Your efforts are going to return this world to solid footing. You and your genius is what we need to most.  So, thank you.

If you want to explore a world where the smartest, hardest working, leaders in society don’t show up, read this one! It will definitely put some pride in your morning. After reading this book you will look at yourself in the mirror and say “thanks”.

So….where is the money? I promised that you would be able to make more money after reading this philosophical book.  This book will change some of your beliefs, especially the ones around money.  How you view money, what value it has in society and what your part is in creating it. When you change your belief about money, you will be free to make more of it. Reading this book and adopting the philosophy around money will remove psycological roadblocks you may have.

Now go and read, you need a break.

On your team,

Mark
