Why is win/win/win the key to your small business success?

Posted on 16 March 2010

Yes, another “win” to the “win/win” phrase. You have to add one more “win”, your small business success depends on it.  In business, there is a relationship that needs to have three wins.  What relationship am I talking about?

1. Satisfy the employee or the quality degrades. (employee wins)

2. Manage the quality or the customer leaves. (customer wins)

3. Satisfy the customer’s demand for quality or the money stops. (your business wins)

Well that’s it, there you have it, three wins. Make it happen or struggle with your small business forever.  I could leave you with just that list, but that just would not be fair.  The second and third wins, customer and business are probably obvious to you. So let’s just focus on the first, “employee wins”.

As a small business Owner, capital “O”, you probably find dealing with employee wants can sometimes be a pain in the neck.  They are can be like children, give them an inch and they take your whole arm! I exaggerate of course, but let’s agree, employees have needs and wants.

I am saying, “it is critical for your financial success to satisfy the needs and wants of your employees”.

This may sound like a daunting task because needs and wants change constantly.  Fear not, intrepid business owner, you can do it.  Here is the key “relationship”.  Most needs can be/are satisfied through relationship.

You discover the need by getting to know your employee. You can find out how the business can satisfy the need through developing partnerships (relationship), with your employee and best of all you can unite in a common purpose (customer satisfaction), through relationship.

Relationship with your employees = customer satisfaction!

A simple fact of life is – you may not like all the tasks of your job, but if you like who you work with (relationship), you will like your job! Yes it is that simple.

Set regular time aside for each employee you have, get to know them, discover their dreams, goals desires and help them to succeed.  This action will be matched by the employee and they will want to do the same for you!  It’s called the law of reciprocity, it works all the time, every time.

Test me on this one, try it right away.  Do something nice for one of your employees and watch for it to return to you. Take an employee for coffee, watch their attitude over the next few days. You will be pleasantly rewarded.

On your Team,

Mark

PS: Find one action to develop relationship every day, make it a habit.
